The Fiberglass Advantage
Homeowners have three choices for inground pool construction: vinyl, gunite and fibgerglass. Fiberglass technology revolutionized the swimming pool industry. Vinyl pools are quick to install but are also prone to tears, discoloration and leaks. Gunite pools take a long time to install and require a great deal of labor. Still, even gunite pools crack with time and require replastering. With fiberglass, you can enjoy pool ownership without the worry, inconvenience or expense associated with vinyl and gunite. Fiberglass pools are strong, flexible, resistant to cracks, easy to maintain and quick to install.
Strength and Flexability
Gunite pools are very strong, but not flexible. As the ground shifts, that strength eventually leads to cracks. Fiberglass pools are flexible and strong. As the ground shifts, they flex to accommodate the new topography instead of cracking. Cracks are an eyesore, can lead to leaks and can be expensive to repair. With fiberglass, you don't have to worry about how your pool will hold up to ground movement now or years from now. Your pool is built to last and endure.
Maintenance
Fiberglass pools are amazingly easy to care for. If you've had a pool that was a headache, chances are it wasn't fiberglass. A fiberglass pool has a smooth, non-porous gel-coat finish. Algae cannot cling to the smooth walls of a fiberglass pool the way it can to the rough walls of a gunite pool. Another advantage inherent to fiberglass pools is the fact that their surfaces are chemically inert and do not lead to water chemistry imbalances. Gunite pools release calcium and other minerals into the water, working against the pool owner as he or she attempts to balance the pH. When you have a fiberglass pool, your pool is working with you to make your job as easy as possible.
Texture
The gel-coat finish on a fiberglass is smooth and non abrasive. Even the skid-resistant pool floors are non abrasive and a pleasure to walk on. Do you ever remember leaving a pool to find your or your children's feet covered in blisters or your swim suit snagged? Gunite pools are notorious for their painfully abrasive texture. Fiberglass is smooth so it is comfortable and safe to swim and play in. With a fiberglass pool your pool surface will never scare you away from enjoying your investment.
Cost
Fiberglass and gunite pool installations generate comparable material and equipment costs, but fiberglass pools require much less labor than do gunite pools. Where a gunite pool might take anywhere from one to three months to install, a fiberglass pool is full of water and running in about two weeks. That's anywhere from two weeks to two and a half months less labor costs for you to finance. The savings are significant and bring the cost of adding a pool to your backyard down without sacrificing quality. That is the advantage of using fiberglass technology.
When built properly, gunite pools are good pools; but a fiberglass pool by Gary's Pool and Patio is a great pool. Our pools are easier on your feet, faster to install, less expensive and require less chemicals and less maintenance than do gunite pools. This is why so many people are turning to fiberglass.
